The Ross Sea is a deep bay of the Southern Ocean in Antarctica, between Victoria Land and Marie Byrd Land and within the Ross Embayment, and is the southernmost.
A cruise to the Ross Sea offers a far more remote and untouched Antarctic experience than the classical Peninsula route. You’ll venture into one of the most isolated regions on Earth, where few humans have ever set foot. The area is rich in historic exploration sites, including the preserved huts of Scott and Shackleton. It’s also home to incredible wildlife, such as emperor penguins, Weddell seals, and vast colonies of Adélie penguins. Most strikingly, the raw, icy grandeur of the Ross Ice Shelf and towering tabular icebergs makes it feel like visiting another planet. These unique itineraries are offered mainly by Ponant, Heritage Expeditions and Aurora Expeditions.
