where you will overnight at a hotel.
Day 2 Longyearbyen

mountains. Visit artisanal shops, cafés, restaurants, or a
microbrewery, before going on an excursion, followed by MS Fram
embarkation in the late afternoon.
Day 3-6 North West
Spitsbergen
National Park Summer is an excellent time to scan for Arctic wildlife
(and perhaps even sight a polar bear) as we cruise through the national
park. We also hope to visit Kongsfjord, where mighty glaciers calve
into the sea. We may also try to land at the historic mining settlement
of Ny-Ålesund, home to research centres for glaciology and
climate change.
Day 7 At Sea
Relax and enjoy onboard lectures while we set course towards Jan Mayen.
The Expedition Team presents talks and workshops, sharing their vast
knowledge and experience.
Day 8 Jan Mayen
Discover the remote Norwegian island of Jan Mayen, dominated by the
world’s northernmost active volcano and where 30 people live
at a weather station. Hurtigruten is one of the few exploration
companies to attempt landings here.
Day 9 At Sea
Wind down and watch the waves on this relaxing day at sea or take in a
lecture or two by the Expedition Team.
Day 10 Akureyri (Full day)
Encounter Iceland’s secondlargest city, Akureyri, at its
summertime best, where you can opt to visit the nearby national,
natural treasures of Mývatn lake and Goðafoss
waterfall.
INCLUDED EXCURSION:
Town walk and Botanical Garden visit
Day 11 Grímsey
Island (Full day)
Come ashore and literally step across the Arctic Circle that runs
through this grassy, green Icelandic island. Warm water originating
from the Gulf of Mexico creates a mild climate popular with
nesting seabirds.
INCLUDED EXCURSION:
Arctic circle crossing ceremony
Day 12
Patreksfjördur (Full day)
Visit the charming settlement of Patreksfjördur on the west
coast of Iceland. You may wish to hike the scenic trails along the
picturesque fjord, if the weather allows.
INCLUDED EXCURSION:
Stroll through the most western village of Europe
Day 13
Stykkishólmur (Full day)
Explore the friendly town of Stykkishólmur with its
beautiful, well-preserved old houses and wonderful scenery, or join
optional excursions to see the black sand beaches of
Djúpalónssandur.
INCLUDED EXCURSION:
Walking tour and visit to the Eider Centre
Day 14
Reykjavík
Our voyage of discovery ends in Reykjavík where, if you have
the time, we suggest booking a Post-Programme excursion to explore
nearby geysers, glaciers
and geothermal baths.
MS Fram (Expedition, 200-guests)
MS Fram is purpose built as an expedition vessel with a higher ice-class, chart drawing tools, ship depth sounding database, extractable forward sounding sonar, iceberg search lights, autonomous tracking system, oversized oil retention system for self-sufficiency, and a full 'expedition tools-deck' equivalent to a car-deck that holds 25 vehicles. We believe that as an explorer you need an 'expedition base-camp' that is comfortable - something that combines 'all oceans capabilities' with safety, flexibility and environmental friendliness. That's Fram - simply the best expedition ship imaginable.
