What Zodiacs Are and Their Capabilities
Vessel Type: Zodiacs are small, heavy-duty inflatable vessels, typically ranging from 13 to 30 feet in length. They are also referred to as "expedition landing craft".
Design & Safety: They feature a rigid hull and inflatable pontoons, which are chambered for impressive floatation and stability, ensuring the boat remains afloat even if one or more chambers deflate. This low center of gravity and semi-rigid flooring makes them very stable, agile, and virtually impossible to flip or sink.
Durability: Made of supremely durable synthetic rubber, they resist damage from gravel beaches and brash ice, making them ideal for polar regions.
Capacity: They can carry up to 16 guests, though groups are usually capped at 12 for comfort. Passengers sit on the inflatable pontoons.
Zodiacs are the indispensable tool for transporting passengers and staff to remote landing sites where no port facilities exist. Their durable hull and shallow draft allow them to land on various inaccessible sites, including rocky outcrops, ice floes, and exposed beaches.

You get to explore the frozen beauty of the polar coastline, cruising through iceberg graveyards, brash ice, and around grounded icebergs. This allows you to venture closer to shorelines, hidden inlets, and rarely seen bays that the larger ship cannot reach.
Excursions are manned by highly experienced drivers and a knowledgeable naturalist or guide who tailors the interpretive program to what is spotted.
Expeditions include a mandatory briefing on safe procedures. Passengers must wear provided safety vests and follow the driver's instructions at all times. Experienced crew members use a secure "sailor's grip" to assist passengers in and out of the boats.
Zodiac cruising provides a unique perspective at water level, offering uninterrupted, 360-degree views of the environment. The excursions generally last between 1 to 3 hours.
