Expedition Vessel With 12
We believe the best way to experience an environmentally sensitive
place such as the Arctic is with a small group of travellers. With the
new expedition cruise ships now taking over 300 passengers, we believe
smaller is better.

Day 1 : Longyearbyen
The Svalbard expedition cruise departs from Longyearbyen, the most
northerly town in the world. Embarkation is in the afternoon at the
port of Longyearbyen a short walk from the town. After a welcome, our
expedition leader will do an introduction outlining the plan for the
voyage based on local sea ice conditions which vary year on
year. As we cast off we will wave goodbye to civilisation as
we head off into Svalbard’s frozen wilderness to spend the
next 7 days exploring.
Days 2 and 3 : Isfjord
& Prins Karls Foreland
Our first area of exploration is Isfjord which is home to some
magnificent glaciers. Working with the sea ice conditions we plan to do
a shore landing by Zodiac landing craft so you can enjoy the frozen
scenery shore. If the conditions are good we may have the opportunity
to do a short hike using snowshoes. As we sail out of Isfjord we will
keep a lookout on deck for whales that are known to frequent this area.
We then plan to land on Prins Karls Foreland at a walrus haul-out area
with another opportunity to do some exploration ashore.
Days 4 and 5 : North-West
Coast, Kongsfjord & Ny Alesund
We will sail north along the west coast of Spitsbergen keeping a
lookout for wildlife including polar bears that inhabit the area. We
will do regular shore landings with our expert guides to visit
different places of interest including glaciers, and do short hikes
ashore in the beautiful nature. The ice conditions will likely permit
us to visit the scientific research settlement of Ny Alesund, the most
northerly settlement on earth, and visit the museum. We will explore
the area around Kongsfjord and sail as close as we can get to one of
Svalbard’s largest glaciers on the Lillyhook fjord.
Days 6 and 7 : Southern
On the final two days we will follow the compass south and explore the
region along the southwest coast of Spitsbergen. If conditions allow we
will sail as far south as Hornsund where we will spend some time doing
shore landings and exploring the beautiful coast.
Day 8 : Longyearbyen
After breakfast, we say our goodbyes and disembark at the port of
Longyearbyen after making new friends and sharing an exciting adventure
The above itinerary is a
guide only. A part of a Svalbard expedition cruise is the flexibility
to take advantage of the weather and ice conditions. Our expedition
leader will make sure you see as much a possible.
